Medicine is a complex field. Quite frequently, people come in with difficult problems without simple solutions. However, what is simple is how you approach treatment for each person.
Dr. MacLean hopes that all people will have felt heard when they leave the office. This can be difficult in a short office visit, so he sits, listens, and tries to understand who each person is and what they need when they tell their story. Often times, their story will betray concerns or fears that are not directly communicated out loud. Or, it may identify unique factors in their lives that complicate or limit treatment - such as demands of a job, a move, or care for a family member. Dr. MacLean believes that treatment must be customized to the individual. The same problem may require a different approach as each person is unique.
As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. MacLean also brings the latest, scientifically-supported techniques to his patients. Some treatments people hear about on the internet or via advertising are largely done for marketing and have little scientific rigor supporting their efficacy. It is important when making a treatment recommendation to be able to say, "I would do the same thing for my family."
